Extra Bank Holiday for Olympics year

In the build-up to the 2012 Olympics there will be an extra bank holiday to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, it has been announced by Lord Mandelson in the House of Lords.

The usual bank holiday at the end of May will also be moved back a week, creating a four-day weekend in June, so the country can celebrate the monach's 60th year on the thrown.

The 83-year-old Queen's official birthday is on Monday 4 June, which will be one of the two successive bank holidays in 2012.

A parade through the city of London will also take place as part of the celebrations.
